The Toddler class is taking on a new challenge with “batik (resist art)”! ( =゚ω゚)ノ✨✨✨

💡 Modern painting techniques (modern art methods) include methods that use the colors and shapes created by chance. Other techniques include dripping, spattering, marbling, and stamping. You might have noticed these techniques in the crafts your child has brought home before—feel free to look back and see if you can spot them!

This time, the Toddler class is using the batik technique to create hagoita (traditional Japanese wooden paddles). They drew pictures on the paddles with white crayons, then layered watercolor paints over them. The parts drawn with crayon resist the paint, causing the design to stand out. The children chose their own paint colors, and their brush-handling skills have improved a lot! (*”▽”)~👏👏👏

What kind of hagoita will they create? I wonder if they’ll dry by tomorrow. I can’t wait to see the final results!

Today is January 20th, the Dai-kan (the coldest day of the year in the traditional calendar). It’s also Hatsuka-shōgatsu (20th-day New Year), which marks the end of the New Year celebrations. On this day, people often take down their New Year decorations. Have you taken yours down at home yet? Let us know! (´▽`*)💕💕💕
