Our Pre-K1 & Kinder friends are cutting bright red construction paper✂. Hm? (。´・ω・)❓ They’re folding the paper in half and cutting it into a rounded shape👀👀👀❓

It looks like they’re making hearts💗! ( ̄д ̄)❓ Oh, but wait—there’s still one side of the heart that hasn’t been decorated yet( ̄ー ̄)❓

They’re applying paint directly onto the paper using their hands and fingers. Oh my! The teacher is squeezing paint straight from the tube. What a bold technique~(;・∀・)💦💦💦

No need to worry(`・ω・´)ゞ! Once they’ve added as much paint as they like, they fold the paper in half, press it firmly with both hands, and then carefully open it… Wow! An unexpected, beautiful, and fascinating pattern appears!ヾ(≧▽≦)ノ✨✨✨

For this activity, our Pre-K1 & Kinder friends used an artistic technique called “Decalcomania” to create their Valentine’s craft. They made large, vibrant, and beautifully patterned hearts💗. Such stunning artwork! (´ω`)💕💕💕
💡 What is Decalcomania?
Decalcomania is a Surrealist art technique that originates from the French word meaning “transfer.” The process involves applying paint onto paper and pressing another sheet onto it before the paint dries, creating unexpected and unique patterns. Developed by Oscar Domínguez, this technique is commonly used in art activities for children and school projects.
By dabbing paint onto paper and pressing another sheet over it, you can create mirror-like symmetrical patterns. Similarly, placing paint on one side of a folded paper and then pressing it together before slowly unfolding it reveals beautifully symmetrical designs—this is the magic of Decalcomania!
You can add details to the finished artwork or use the patterned paper as a material to create something new. It’s a simple yet enjoyable technique that both children and adults can appreciate. Don’t overthink it—just have fun embracing the accidental beauty of colors! ( =゚ω゚)ノ✨✨✨
